PROJECT NWRP: Organization and facilitation services of the Egyptian delegation visit

April 2017

ICATALIST was in charge of preparing the field visit in Spain for the beneficiaries of the NWRP Project (Support to the National Water Resources Plan). This Project is part of the European Union program for the water sector  reform in Egypt, being the beneficiary of the same the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt and executed by the research institute linked to the University of Wageningen "Alterra" and by the consultancy Mott McDonald.

The objective of the field visit was the exchange of ideas and experiences between Egyptian and Spanish entities in order to enrich the next cycle of water resources planning in the Egyptian country.

Thanks to the support provided by ICATALIST, the delegation was able to visit some of the facilities of Canal de Isabel II:  the control centre in Majadahonda and the drinking water treatment plant in Galapagar;I, the experimental campus of the IMDEA-AGUA research centre in Alcalá de Henares; the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and the Environment; the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura in Murcia; different irrigation communities in Murcia and the desalination plants in Águilas and Cuevas.

ICATALIST played the role of local organiser of the visit of the Egyptian delegation. Specifically:

- We contacted different entities and organizations related to planning, management and research on water resources in our country and arranged visits and meetings.

- We prepared the necessary material and support and logistics (transport and accommodation) of the people who were part of the NWRP delegation, being their guides and contact person during the week that lasted the visit.

- We facilitated the exchange of experiences between Egyptian and Spanish experts.

- We hired a Spanish/Arabic translator who acted as interpreter during the visits to the different centres.
