VALLACAMBIO: Circular Economy board game. Nature based Solutions implanted in Valladolid city.
Valladolid City Council.
February 2019 - March 2020
To address challenges such as climate change and ecosystem degradation, it is necessary to transform our cities into sustainable systems using a holistic and extensive approach. An ever-growing element in achieving this adaptation is the implementation of Nature Based Solutions (NBS).
VALLACAMBIO game was born from a project to promote circular economy and eco-innovation based on the Valladolid municipality. It consists of the design and implementation of a game that combines the concept of a circular economy with that of a green economy within the city of Valladolid. Consequently, it is expected that nature-based solutions can be implemented to achieve a circular economy.
The objective of the game is to raise awareness of how investing in different infrastructures through different NBS´s (green, blue, grey and smart) will help the city to be more resilient to the effects of climate change. It will also teach them about the benefits of NBS both in terms of the mitigation of damage within the investments they make and in terms of the quality of life present in the city itself.
All players will have to work together and compete to meet their individual goals, implementing nature-based solutions (NBS) to prevent the climatic emergencies that threaten the city.
This game can be used in secondary schools, professional training, university courses and civic centres in order to empower the youngest population and citizens in general to incorporate the concept of the circular economy in the municipality of Valladolid. In turn, it will be made available to the general public in case they want to learn about the values of the game, thus being a way to reach a larger portion of the public.
ICATALIST oversees the design and implementation of the game in collaboration with AQUAVALL. The game will be tested in several institutes and civic centres, to involve young people and teenagers in the implementation of a circular economy, awakening their active role as responsible consumers, whilst strengthening their knowledge about key natural resources. Finally, the key results of the project will be evaluated and documented.
Project funded by the Agency for Innovation and Economic Development of Valladolid and the City Council of Valladolid.
