GLOBAL STUDY ON WATER TENURE: STUDY CASE IN SPAIN
United Nations University for FAO. Germany / Italy
August 2013 - January 2014
Proof-concept study of the water tenure concept commissioned by FAO. The aim was to analyse the feasibility of application of this concept to decide whether this should be added to the FAO voluntary guidelines on natural resources tenure
ICATALIST developed in Spain one of the three case studies commissioned by FAO, with the other two case studies carried out in South Africa and India. It involved the collection of data related to water tenure and the analysis of how this information could be used for an improved water management in two pilot basins in Spain, i.e. the Guadiana and the Duero river basins. The methods applied included a water accounting component combined with several in-field activities promoting the engagement of relevant stakeholders.
