March 2019

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is working on integrating Nature Based Solutions for Water Resources Management (NBS4WRM) into the investment needs of the water sector, with relatively predictable and measurable risk-adjusted returns. As part of its overall integration strategy, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is preparing a report entitled "Urban Water Blueprint for Europe (UWB-E)" to provide a strategic vision for expanding the adoption of NBS4WRM in Europe.  This report will be widely disseminated to a mix of target audiences, with messages and recommendations specifically targeted at different groups. The UWB report will be a platform to facilitate deeper engagement between TNC and these diverse groups in Europe, as well as to identify specific locations where recommended approaches can be implemented to encourage the expansion of the NBS4WRM.

As part of this initiative, the Conservancy has identified Spain as a country with great potential for NBS implementation, but whose adoption rate is somewhat behind other European countries. The Conservancy has therefore taken an interest in starting a line of work in Spain to support the implementation of these solutions, in line with the interests of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the future National Strategy for Green Infrastructures. Within this framework, TNC and the Ministry of Economic Transition teamed up to organize a workshop on the occasion of World Water Day, aimed at generating a debate among the main actors with potential influence and interest in the development of solutions based on Nature, in order to identify the main challenges, possible solutions and lines of action needed to promote these solutions in Spain.

The workshop was co-organized by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and TNC, who had the services, experience and knowledge on the subject of ICATALIST to support the organization of the workshop, specifically in the following functions:

-Elaboration of the workshop agenda

-Identify key stakeholders to invite

-Elaboration of the flyer contents about success cases in NBS.

-Sending of invitations by e-mail and attendance control.

-Support in logistical tasks in the organization of the workshop

-Moderation of the discussion part of the workshop by Elena López Gunn

-Brief report with key messages after the workshop

-Management of guest travel reimbursements
