Marta Rica

Senior Researcher

Marta is a researcher at ICATALIST in areas related to social innovation and socio-ecological
transformation. Marta is also responsible for the area of corporate social and environmental
responsibility.


Marta works as researcher for different H2020 projects: BRIGAID, NAIAD and EDUCEN. She is
also involved in the H2020 Afrialliance project Action Group on Integrated Water Management
and Ethics and in the EIP Water Action Group RIVER RES, where ICATALIST is also part.
Previously, during 2015-2016, she worked as a consultant for UNFAO, mainly supporting the
Groundwater Governance project as well as other activities related to drought management
and policies. During 2012-2014, she lived in Bolivia where, through an AECID program she
participated in a NGO/University project researching on the organizational and institutional
capacity of collective water supply in periurban areas of the city of Cochabamba. She also
worked for the GIZ in rural areas of Bolivia evaluating water harvesting projects in
communities.


She did a PhD about collective action for groundwater governance in Spain in the Universidad
Complutense de Madrid, February 2016. In 2010, she graduated from the MSc International
Land and Water Management in Wageningen University, specializing in Integrated Water
Management and disserting about the Human Right to Water in Bolivia. She holds a degree on
Environmental Sciences from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2008. She is especially
interested on participatory process and public engagement and social innovation. She focuses
on the science-policy-citizen dialogue, social-ecological approaches and political ecology
including environmental justice variables.
